When I was growing up, my mom was probably one of the only moms around who didn't make apple pie. She did, however, make these Apple Dumplings. They are, in my opinion, better than Apple Pie. I don't make them often, because my kids actually leave the pie crust on their plate -- which is kind of crazy to do with a dumpling. But, I love it when my mom makes them for me. Warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Mmmm -- heaven!
6 baking apples, peeled and chopped
cinnamon to taste
1 ½ cups sugar
½ cup flour
3 T. butter
2 recipes of your favorite prepared pie dough
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix apples with sugar and flour.
Roll pie dough into (6) 6 to 8-inch rounds.
Place 1/6 of apple mixture on each pie dough round,
sprinkle with cinnamon and dot with 1/2 T. butter.
Pinch together pie dough on top of dumpling.
Bake for 40 - 45 minutes.

Yippee!! More apple recipes! Thanks so much for sharing them. Tomorrow we'll make the muffins, the turnovers and dumplings. My kids don't like cooked raisins either (unless it's in pumpkin raisin bread). We made dumplings last week but your recipe sounds better.
If you like I'll share a really yummy and decadent apple caramel (& chocolate) bar recipe that my family devoured in less than 24 hours.
I'd love the apple caramel bar recipe, Michelle!
