German Birthday Party

You may have noticed on my menu, that we're having a birthday party on Saturday. My oldest son is turning 18 -- wow am I old -- and we're having a party for family and friends with a German theme. We wanted to have an Oktoberfest, but his birthday's at the end of the month and Oktoberfest has been over for almost two weeks. But, he is a third year German student, as are many of his buddies, so we're going with a German theme anyway. Our menu is almost authentic, with the addition of Au Gratin Potatoes, for those who don't like real German food, and Pumpkin Roll for dessert, because the birthday boy loves it.

Three generations of people will be in attendance -- grandparents, parents, and our children, as well as loads of 17- and 18-year-old boys. The fire will be roaring in the backyard, with tubs of iced root beer -- several varieties -- for everyone to enjoy. The Xbox 360 will be set up in the basement for group fun. And the Buckeyes will be on television. It should be an interesting evening.

Menu

Bratwurst and Knockwurst, roasted in beer and then grilled
Warmer Kartoffelsalat (Potato Salad)
Sauerkraut -- doctored up from a jar
Apfelmus (applesauce)
Augratinkartoffeln (
Au Gratin Potatoes)
Bier brot (Beer Bread)
Kürbisrolle (
Pumpkin Roll)
Apfelkuchen (Streusel Apple Pie)
Wurzelbier (Root Beer)
.

Ah, the Buckeyes will be on television beating my team, the MSU Spartans. Maybe not, but my money is on the Buckeyes.

Sounds like a GREAT party. You are clearly not so old that you can't still throw a wonderful birthday party for your son!
