Note: I used half a head of cabbage and it easily served six. If your crowd really loves cabbage go for the whole head.
Fried Cabbage
serves 6
4 bacon slices
1 large head fresh cabbage, coarsely chopped (or a half for smaller portions)
1 t.salt
1 t. pepper
Cook bacon in a large skillet 10 minutes or until crisp. Remove bacon, and drain on paper towels, reserving 1 tablespoon drippings in skillet. Crumble bacon.
Add cabbage to hot drippings in skillet; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Sauté cabbage over medium-high heat 10 to 12 minutes or until tender. Sprinkle with bacon.
Serving suggestion: Especially yummy with some Beer-Braised Bratwurst (grilled or not) and mashed potatoes

I love fried cabbage! I haven't made it in a while, but I like to use the purple cabbage, too. I think it should have more nutrients since it has more color. I often add a couple of Tbls of balsamic vinegar. The kids like it, too!
I have 2 heads right now. One for fried cabbage (even though I didn't know that until just now) and one for cabbage Lasagne. Yum.
I make fried cabbage too, just cabbage, garlic, salt fried in a little olive oil. I have to try your recipe with bacon! Bet it's yummy!
This looks really good. A good italian version is to omit the bacon and instead add in some oregano and garlic slices. instead of the the bacon fat - use a little olive oil - it tastes great. Thanks for the reminder - I think I'll go get some cabbage...
I love cabbage, too. I often saute it and top with soy sauce and a runny egg. Perfect breakfast, lunch or dinner!
